Cawston Band is one of Norfolk’s oldest and high-profile brass bands. The Cawston and District Silver Prize Band was formed in 1886 in the village of Cawston, 11 miles north of Norwich. The band’s first rehearsal room was based above the Bell Inn in Cawston, which remained the band’s home until the 1960s. In 1998 the band moved to the St Faith’s Centre in Horsham St Faiths, which has remained the band’s rehearsal room to the present day.

Over the years the band has contested at a number of venues, including the iconic Crystal Palace, Wembley and Harrogate International Centre. In 1983 Cawston was one of the first Norfolk bands ever to appear at the Royal Albert Hall, at the Fourth Section National Finals. In 2016 the band won the London and Southern Counties Region Second Section, and was placed sixth in the National Championships at Cheltenham. The band is currently placed in the First Section nationally.

In 2005 Cawston Band announced that Norfolk-based and internationally-loved actor, director and comedian Stephen Fry was to become the band’s President, a position also held by his mother in the 1960s and 70s.

The band has performed at a number of venues throughout Norfolk and East Anglia, including Norwich Cathedral, Wymondham Abbey, Eaton Park, Cromer Lifeboat Station and Fat Cat Brewery Tap.
